The latest report of the the public accounts committee (PAC) tabled in the state assembly on Friday slammed the Gujarat government for poor implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act in the state, poor school infrastructure and misappropriation of funds allocated to improve school infrastructure. The PAC noted that Rs1,106 crore was allocated under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) from 2008-09 to 2012-13, of which Rs 908.93 crore was spent while the rest was not used. Despite repeated instructions from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) and the PAC, financial and work audits were not done. The PAC instructed the government to ensure yearly audits are carried out.
