Gujarat’s RTE forum joins national campaign, to give memorandum to PM

AHMEDABAD: The RTE Forum, Gujarat is to join in the national campaign undertaken by the education activists and NGOs demanding implementation of the Right to Education Act.Gujarat’s RTE Forum has decided to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for implementation of the law by the next deadline, March 31, 2015. The PM will be requested to push the state machinery to make RTE a reality. “Various programmes will be conducted in 10 districts in Gujarat in coming days. The Forum has decided to collect 10 lakh grievances during this period across the country against the violation of provisions and spirit of RTE Act. This is a part of the 150 days National Campaign “Claiming Education…for Every Child” launched on November 1 keeping in mind the remaining five months before the second deadline for the implementation of RTE Act, 2009,” said

Nafis said that the forum has invited all people concerned to come together in favour of every child of this country to ensure good quality education in an equitable manner. The campaign is raising the issue to universalize quality education for every child within the stipulated time.

In its memorandum that contains 11-point demands, the forum will seek complete implementation of RTE laws, bringing all children back to school by next year by rolling out nationwide child mapping and tracking systems and special training for them out of school. The forum demands immediate filling of vacant posts for teachers, empowering parents to supervise education in schools and allocation of 6% of GDP for education.

The demands also include extension of the RTE laws to cover all children below 18 years.
